During the opening lap of MotoGP’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Aleix Espargaro and Franco Morbidelli collided, causing Espargaro to retire from the race. Tempers remained high even after the incident, with Morbidelli stating that he could have been even more critical of Espargaro. The collision occurred early in the race, when Morbidelli’s poor start led to contact between the Italian and the Spaniard.
Fortunately, Morbidelli was able to continue racing after the incident, finishing in fourth place. Morbidelli accused Espargaro of having a personal issue against him, prompting a response from Espargaro on social media. In the following race at Aragon, Morbidelli stood by his criticism of Espargaro’s behavior as a test rider, highlighting the unfairness of the incident.
Despite sustaining a fractured foot in the collision, Morbidelli managed an impressive recovery to finish fourth in the race. He acknowledged the positive outcome of being able to restart the race due to the red flag, ultimately leading to a strong finish.
